Victim in fatal Danforth shooting ID'd as Tyrone Tomlinson, 21

A friendly, family-oriented neighbourhood is reeling after a man in his twenties was fatally shot early Sunday on a street in Toronto's east end.

Toronto police have identified the victim as Tyrone Tomlinson, 21.

Staff Sgt. Allen Love at Toronto Police Service's 54 Division said police received several calls about the sound of gunshots on Langford Avenue near Fielding Avenue at about 12:15 a.m.

Tomlinson was found in front of a home on Langford Avenue, where he had been visiting a friend, Det. Sgt. Susan Gomes told reporters.

Police believe he was shot multiple times before he was rushed to a local trauma centre with life-threatening injuries and died.

Officers are now canvassing the area and hoping for surveillance video from around the time of the shooting. A suspect was last seen running eastbound from the scene and jumping over a fence, Gomes said. He is described as wearing dark clothing, a hood and possibly had a knapsack.

Man found on street near Danforth and Pape

Witnesses told police that there was a man lying on the street and a person was seen fleeing the area, which is north of Danforth Avenue and east of Pape Avenue.

Neighbourhood resident Beverley Cooper said she was in bed reading when she heard four shots ring out.

"Very soon afterward, I heard sirens," she said.

'It's very scary'

"It's very scary because we don't even know where the suspect is... where is this person?" said one woman who was too afraid to be identified.

"My kids are getting older now and they're going to be walking to school themselves," she said. " At least that's what I thought."

"I'll be taking my daughter to school on Monday," said the woman who spoke to CBC Toronto. "That's for sure."

Tomlinson was Toronto's seventh homicide victim of the year.
