A 37-year-old man was declared dead at the scene after his vehicle smashed into a home in Ottawa's Elmvale Acres neighbourhood late Tuesday night.

Ottawa police were called to a home on Chapman Boulevard, a residential street west of St. Laurent Boulevard and south of Smyth Road, just before midnight.

The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle, police said. There were no passengers, and no one inside the house was hurt.

The crash caused significant damage to the front of the single-storey home.

The investigation into the incident continues.
