Another 'nice gesture' leads to collision, following police warning
Police in Charlottetown say a collision on University Avenue Wednesday was the result of one driver waving another in — a practice police are trying to discourage.
Deputy Police Chief Gary McGuigan said at around 11:30 a.m. this morning a woman attempted to make a left turn onto University, near Nassau Street.
He said someone stopped to wave her in, but her car collided with an on-coming vehicle.
'Don't feel safe': Police
Last Friday, a bus driver stopped in the outside southbound lane at the KFC driveway and waved out a Toyota Echo, police said.
After that collision, police reminded people to stick to the rules of the road, and not to wave someone in if they don't have the right-of-way — and a warning to drivers not to take a wave as a sign the road is clear.
"Don't feel safe because somebody is stopped and is waving you out," McGuigan told CBC News:Compass on Tuesday. "They have no control over the flow of traffic."
