Boy’s body found in freezer after sibling gives note to teacher, Nevada cops say
A preschooler was found dead in a freezer at a Nevada home after his sibling gave a note to her teacher, police told news outlets.
The note from the children’s mother said she was being held captive in her Las Vegas home and had not seen her son, KVVU reported.
The sister gave the note to a teacher at her elementary school in the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 22, according to KLAS.
The mother “stated that she didn’t know where her younger child was and that she believed he was deceased,” Las Vegas homicide Lt. Ray Spencer told the Reno Gazette Journal.
The teacher gave the note to Las Vegas police, who then set up surveillance near the home, KLAS reported. Later in the day, a woman and man left the home, and police pulled them over.
Police detained the man, the mother’s 35-year-old boyfriend, and interviewed the woman, according to KVVU.
The mom told police she had seen her son last on Dec. 11 and that she was not allowed to leave the house or go into the garage, Spencer told the Gazette Journal.
Homicide detectives searched the home, where they found the boy’s body in a freezer in the garage. Police told KVVU they believe the boy died in early December.
Police did not say how the boy died but said it is “such a tragic situation,” according to KVVU. The county coroner will officially identify the boy and determine the cause and manner of his death.
Investigators don’t believe the mother was involved in her son’s death, police told the Gazette Journal. The boy’s sister was placed in the care of other family, according to KLAS.
The mother’s boyfriend was initially charged with kidnapping charges, but Spencer said the man was expected to face a murder charge, the Gazette Journal reported.
“It’s still early on,” Spencer told the Gazette Journal, “and there are a lot of questions that we still have to answer about what occurred over the last three months.”
