Chris Cuomo on Trump's recent attack: 'I’m sure you do want me to get sick again'

Hours after President Trump mocked him at a rally in Arizona, Chris Cuomo got the chance to respond. At the rally, Trump railed against CNN for their coverage of COVID-19, asserting that they report on it too much and people are tired of hearing about it, before moving on to Cuomo, questioning if he really had COVID-19 earlier this year. Trump then wondered aloud if Cuomo would get sick again, though it’s not yet known whether or not someone who has had it can get it again. “I’m sure you do want me to get sick again,” Cuomo responded, “but all I wanted was for you to get well. And I [don’t] want others to suffer because I take no joy in other people’s pain, and neither should you.”

CHRIS CUOMO: I'm sure you do want me to get sick again, but all I wanted was for you to get well. And I want others to suffer, because I take no joy in other people's pain. And neither should you.

- On "Cuomo Prime Time" Monday night, Chris Cuomo responded to an attack by President Trump at a rally earlier in the day, where Trump went after CNN and singled out Cuomo, who tested positive for COVID-19 in March.

DONALD TRUMP: Fredo, you know Fredo? He got horrible ratings. He's talking about the pandemic. That's all they talk about. I don't know. He said he had it. I'm not sure he had it. He went to the basement. It's the only time his ratings were up. People wanted to see what was going to happen. He'll probably get it again, even though in theory you're not supposed to be able to.

- Cuomo also responded to Trump's repeated attacks on Dr. Anthony Fauci and the president's assertion that Americans are tired of hearing about COVID-19.

CHRIS CUOMO: We're all tired of COVID. Hell yeah, we are. Seven months. But this president is clearly part of the problem. Stop attacking the scientists and the science, please. Stop telling your people to expose themselves to the virus, please.

- And Don Lemon, who has also come under attack from Trump, had some words of advice for Cuomo for the next time he's attacked by the president.

DON LEMON: When he says things about you, just ignore it. Then don't punch down. That's it. I love you. I--

CHRIS CUOMO: I ignore it. It's the hordes of his followers who act on it.

DON LEMON: Ignore them as well.
