Meghan Markle Gives Us All a Gift on Her 40th Birthday

Happy Birthday, Meghan Markle! The Duchess of Sussex is celebrating a big milestone today, and in honor of turning 40, she launched a new initiative through Archewell, the organization she and her husband, Prince Harry, founded after leaving their official roles in the British royal family in early 2020.

In a video posted to the Archewell website, Meghan explains that she's challenging 40 friends to “donate 40 minutes of their time to help mentor a woman who is mobilizing back into the workforce.” She cites the millions of women who have lost their jobs since the start of the COVID-19 crisis.

Melissa McCarthy also appears in the video, engaging in banter with the Duchess as she delivers her message. Near the end, McCarthy becomes distracted by a man visible through the window next to Meghan—Prince Harry! (He's juggling—who knew he was so talented?)

In addition to being a fun, playful video that delivers a great message and jumpstarts a worthy initiative, the clip gives us something we've been itching for since reports surfaced that Meghan and Harry had purchased a house in the celebrity-filled enclave of Montecito, California: an inside look at their digs.

Dressed all in white with brown Manolo Blahniks and two necklaces featuring the astrological signs of her children (Taurus for 2-year-old Archie and Gemini for 2-month-old Lilibet), Meghan sits at an oversized wooden desk with her laptop perched on a stack of books. Another stack nearby appears to be copies of her children's book The Bench, which was published in June of this year. Other accessories adorning her desk include a gold vase with white roses, a large crystal, a picture frame, a glass bottle of water, white decorative organizers with gold corner details, and a tray with tea and cookies.

Like her outfit, the color palette of the room around her is mostly neutral, from the stone fireplace with black grate, to the white walls, darker wood-paned windows, and woven natural rug. One thing that does add a pop of color is the blue and white striped bed where Markle's pet Beagle lays snoozing and looking adorable.
