Missing woman’s body found buried in her neighbor’s backyard, California police say

A 59-year-old woman’s body was found buried in her neighbor’s backyard in California, police said.

Her neighbor was booked into jail on a homicide charge, the Milpitas Police Department said in a news release.

The discovery came after a concerned caller asked the police to conduct a welfare check on the woman on Jan. 31, after not hearing from her in several days.

Police said they did not find anything suspicious at the home but could not find the woman. Then they opened a missing person investigation and began searching for the woman in the neighborhood.

Neighbors told police they heard a female screaming in the early morning hours of Jan. 29, but they didn’t make a report to police.

Detectives detained her neighbor, Micah James Dovlet, after finding evidence near the woman’s home that suggested a crime had happened, police said.

Police got a warrant and searched the neighbor’s home leading them to more evidence that a homicide occurred.

The woman’s body was found buried in Dovlet’s backyard, police said.

Dovlet was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on a homicide charge.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family. To ensure privacy of the victim’s family, the Milapitas Police Department will not be releasing the victim’s name,” police said in the release.
