The long-awaited (!) reboot of Predator finally begins production today, and Shane Black has shared a picture of the cast in costume to mark the occasion.

The Predator will be a partial reboot/sequel set in the present day, which will refer to the mythology and events of the originals.

In this picture we can see from L-R: Sterling K Brown, Trevante Rhodes, Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn and Keegan-Michael Key, with Jacob Tremblay and Black in front.

Though it'll still have the signature monster, Black, who Digital Spy spoke to while he was promoting his noir comedy The Nice Guys, assured us that the movie would still contain moments of humour as well as the action thrills we've come to expect from the franchise.

"I think there's a tremendous mistake today in assuming that a movie has to choose one tone solely, consistently throughout, and just stick to that tone," said Black.

The film will apparently be set at least somewhat in suburbia, with the alien bounty hunter up against Holbrook's special forces agent and Olivia Munn's scientist. Tremblay will play (presumably) a small boy caught up in the action.

As well as humour, Black has also said he'll be going for an R-rating, so expect swears and violence as well as gags.

With Alien: Covenant somewhat regenerating the Alien franchise and forming a connection between Prometheus and the original Alien movies, could we see another AvP movie in the distant future too?

No, hopefully not.

The Predator starts filming today and is slated for a 2018 release.
