New Range Rover Velar: Hope You Like GrayLand Rover

Land Rover revealed the refreshed 2024 Range Rover Velar on Wednesday, pushing updated looks and a handful of new technology features. What it doesn't seem to include, however, are any interesting paint options.

First discovered by Tim Oldland on Twitter, the Velar's new configurator shows what looks to be absolutely zero notable colors available from the factory. There are two white paints, a black paint, a silver paint, and no fewer than four different types of grey. A ninth color, Varesine Blue, is the only ray of hope. But judging by the configurator, it looks to just be a different shade of grey. Real-life photos do the color a bit more justice, but still, it's not great.

Before the refresh, you could order a Velar with at least two different kinds of blue paint and even a red paint. Alas, that no longer seems to be the case. The base white paint on the new car is the only color you can option free of charge. The other "colors" range from $950 to $1550 extra, depending on whether you go for a "metallic" paint or a "premium metallic" paint.

The news of Land Rover dropping much of the Velar's real color scheme comes at a time when automakers have begun to invest more in unique, interesting paint options to further differentiate themselves in an ever-commodified car market. Fun colors are one of the last ways carmakers can truly stand out amongst competition, so it's sad to see Land Rover going in the opposite direction. On the bright side, at least you can still get the Range Rover Sport in red.
