Ranking Dead: Ranking the Characters of ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7

The Walking Dead is swinging back into your life. Welcome to Ranking Dead, where we give a power ranking of the AMC show’s characters after every episode and then tally up the points over the course of the season. This is how we’d rank ’em after the premiere episode.

5) Simon

It was hard to rank people after this episode because most of the cast was just sitting on the ground crying. That’s why we’re compelled to rank Simon at No. 5. He had a pen when Negan asked for one, knew Darryl’s name. He’s helpful!

4) Maggie

Now that Rick has been thoroughly traumatized into obeying Negan (we think), the group is going to need a new crazy violent person to take charge. The newly widowed Maggie seems ready to take the part with gusto.

3) Daryl

Yes, technically Daryl’s actions led to Negan killing Glenny, we get it. But hey, the dude got up and punched Negan in the face, rendering him silent for the tiniest of moments. We’ll take that with gratitude and reward Daryl with No. 3 this week.

2) Carl

We’re going with Carl in second. When his arm was *thisclose* to joining his eye in the “used to be a part of Carl” category, he was a badass about it. Nice.

1) Negan

Our first-place finisher is the man who was pretty much the only character to do something this week: Negan. He certainly made the biggest first impression of a Walking Dead villain yet. And that vampire bat being thirsty joke was top-level dad humor.

Worst of the week?

Negan. I mean, c’mon. If I had to hear one more of his endless monologues, I’d volunteer myself to be hit with that bat.

And now, our overall power ranking for Season 7. Remember, the higher you rank the more points you get, and it adds up.

  1. Negan (5 points)

  2. Carl (4 points)

  3. Daryl (3 points)

  4. Maggie (2 points)

  5. Simon (1 point)
