Rifle, ammunition and cash found during Brandon traffic stop, police say

Brandon man accused of inappropriately touching woman

A man and woman are facing a number of weapons-related offences after police found a gun and knives during a traffic stop in Brandon.

Police stopped a vehicle early Friday morning on Louise Avenue, near 18th Street, and found a loaded rifle, ammunition and numerous knives, along with marijuana and cash inside, police said.

One of the knives was a prohibited weapon, police said in a release Friday morning.

A man, 33, and a woman, 39, both of no fixed address, were taken into custody and charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, along with numerous firearms related offences.

The man also faces a charge of prohibited driving.

Both were to appear in court Friday morning.

Officers are still looking into whether the two people or the weapons are connected to a recent string of shootings in the Wheat City.
