Scientists Say La Palma Eruption Could Break 5-Century-Old Record
Lava moving at about a meter per second flowed down La Palma’s Cumbre Vieja volcano on November 29, as experts predicted the continued activity could make for the longest eruption on the Spanish island in five centuries.
Footage released by the Canary Islands Volcanology Institute (Involcan) shows the flow on Monday.
Francisco Prieto, a representative of the Canary Islands Volcanic Emergency Plan, told local press the volcano was on course to break a record of 84 days of activity, dating back to 1585.
