Suspended driver owing more than $10K in fines has vehicle seized

Assault arrest lands woman in St. John's lockup

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary were busy dealing with traffic violations overnight on the Northeast Avalon.

A man owing more than $10,000 in outstanding fines had his vehicle impounded Friday night.

RNC officers pulled over the 51-year-old in the west end of St. John's at 10:15 p.m.

Police said the driver was charged with operating a vehicle with a suspended licence and failing to transfer ownership under the Highway Traffic Act.

The man was released to appear in provincial court at a later date.

Impaired driver charged

Meanwhile, police received a tip from the public Friday night regarding a possible impaired driver in the east end of St. John's.

A patrol officer was in the area and stopped the driver around 9:30 p.m.

Police arrested the 28-year-old man for impaired driving and for driving over the legal limit of alcohol.

He was also issued a driving suspension.

The man is scheduled to appear in provincial court at a later time.

Police seize woman's vehicle

Also on Friday night, the RNC conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the east end of St. John's.

Police said the 23-year-old female driver was issued a number of summary offence tickets, including operating without valid insurance and failing to transfer ownership of a vehicle.

The RNC impounded her vehicle.
