Taylor Swift's Star-Studded 34th Birthday Party Felt Like a Fashion Show: Decoding the Dress Code

Was the superstar's N.Y.C. birthday bash Swift-coded? Of course. Here's what the looks may be telling us

Leave it to Taylor Swift to throw a party that also doubled as a fashion show.

Guests dressed to impress to fete the superstar, who turned 34 on Dec. 13, in New York City, leaving us wondering what the dress code was.

We'll start with the birthday girl's look, which of course was coded.

Swift wore a little black birthday dress from Clio Peppiat — the brand that went viral when two characters in The White Lotus wore the label's dresses in season two — featuring a silver moon and starry night sky landscape embroidery. The mini, which retails for $2,335, just marks another moment in the 12-time Grammy winner's celestial style streak, which has fans speculating that her next album might be named "Sagittarius." (More proof of this surfaced before her birthday when Swift carried the Naeem Khan Gold Armory zodia clutch to dinner to support friend Emma Stone in her new movie, Poor Things.)

Best friend Blake Lively looked like a high-fashion gladiator going to battle, circa 2014's Bad Blood music video. The self-proclaimed queen of "loud luxury" twinned with Swift in all-black, selecting a black leather Michael Kors Collection midi dress with a bustier-style bodice and thigh-high slit that flashed her stripe-patterned black tights.

The pièce de résistance of Lively's look were the Christian Louboutin "Fabiola" black leather thigh-high boots.

And while Lively was serving up bad blood, Gigi Hadid seemed to be doing what she does best — skin-baring supermodel.

The Guest in Residence founder wore a cutout knit Christopher John Rogers top with a metallic threading and matching silver metallic cargo pants, serving up a dose of Midnights in honor of Swift.

Keleigh Sperry, who attended the bash with husband Miles Teller, was serving up a more holiday-festive look in a faux fur white collared coat which evoked Sharon Stone in Casino. (Maybe the dress code was in fact Midnights-meets-Casino!)

Sperry put Swifties into overdrive when she liked a TikTok speculating that the opal ring Swift wore to her party was in fact a gift from Swift's boyfriend Travis Kelce.

The ring, in fact, is probably the biggest style statement from the bash, as many speculate the opal (the birthstone of her Libra football beau) is surrounded by blue topaz (the Sagittarius singer's birth stone).

Swift also has a deeper connection to the stone, sharing in the past that it's brought her a sense of peace.

“When I was bullied in school, my mom used to take me to T.J. Maxx after school to look at the opal jewelry,” she told Us Weekly in 2017. “I thought opals were so beautiful, and somehow it made me feel better."
