This dog’s terrified passenger face is proof his owner’s a bad driver

It’s a common competition among couples: who’s the most rubbish driver?

One woman thinks she has proof that she has the edge on her other half behind the wheel, and it comes in the form of a photo of their terrified-looking dog.

Amanda MacCorquodale, 34, snapped bulldog Freddy looking seriously ill at ease during a trip to the New Forest, clinging on to the back seat for dear life.

The adorable pooch is pictured with one sizeable paw on the back of seven-year-old Harrison’s seat and a panicked look in his eyes.

Amanda, from Southampton, has taken this as conclusive proof that she’s a better driver than boyfriend Matt Wyatt, 36, who was behind the wheel when the photo was taken.

She says the picture proves “boy racer” Matt drives as if he is “playing a computer game”.

The couple have been together for two years and share four bulldogs, Freddy, two, Oscar, two, Roxie, one, and four-month-old Lola. Freddy’s classic pose was captured as the family set off on a caravan holiday.

Amanda said: “Usually Freddy sits quite quietly and goes to sleep like the rest of the dogs but I’m not sure what Matt did that day.

“Freddy clearly wanted some comfort from Harrison. What really made me laugh was the way he looks terrified. I honestly couldn’t believe I got it in a photo.

“But he has a look of ‘let me out!’ on his face. Maybe he was having too much fun [on the holiday]. I’m not really sure what goes through his head. I would love to know.”

Amanda said that computer game fan Matt does a lot of virtual racing online, and thinks he’s Lewis Hamilton when he gets behind the wheel of a real car.

She added that her partner was a good, safe driver – “I just think the dog prefers my driving”.

Naturally Matt thinks she has it wrong, and insists that he has the upper hand on his girlfriend where driving is concerned.

He said: “Amanda sometimes says to me ‘You’re not on your computer now’ but I’ll be doing 30mph. She’s always eager to be critical.

“She is a back seat driver who should be locked in the boot with it soundproofed. She is a terrible driver herself. On roundabouts she almost stops.”

He added: “Freddy’s face in that picture is nothing to do with my driving of course. It’s very strange. He never does that.

“Amanda was saying ‘look at him, he doesn’t like your driving’. She thought I was taking a roundabout fast at that point. But you can’t take a roundabout fast in her car, it’s tiny. It doesn’t go fast.”
