Yahoo Sports Cardinals agree to deal with ex-Titans, ex-Patriots CB Malcolm Butler
Cornerback Malcolm Butler has agreed to a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals.
The Cardinals announced the deal on Thursday. The former Tennessee Titan and former New England Patriot will likely fill the starting void left by Patrick Peterson, who departed in free agency to sign with the Minnesota Vikings.
NFL Network reports that the deal is worth up to $6 million. Butler made $11.6 million with the Titans last season and was slated to make $14.2 million before Tennessee released him in an effort to clear salary cap space.
A Pro Bowler in 2015, Butler is perhaps best known for securing New England's Super Bowl XLIX win against the Seattle Seahawks with his end zone interception of Russell Wilson. That game was played at Arizona's University of Phoenix Stadium.
Butler coming off one of his most productive seasons
Butler, 31, played the last three seasons with the Titans after starting his career in New England, where he played four seasons. He made a career-high 100 tackles last season along with four interceptions and 14 passes defended.
The Butler deal is the latest in a busy offseason for the Cardinals, who have also added defensive end J.J. Watt and wide receiver A.J. Green in free agency.
