A Wales fan has died in Qatar on a trip to watch his country play in the World Cup.

Kevin Davies, 62, made the 3,300-mile journey with his son and friends but fell ill while abroad in Doha. Wales supporters are in discussions with England fans about organising a potential tribute in the stands at the upcoming match between the nations.

Mr Davies, 62, had travelled out to Doha from Pembrokeshire with his 38-year-old son.

Around 5,000 Red Wall fans attended the 2-0 defeat against Iran on Friday but Mr Davies, of Pembrokeshire was not at the game. His family and friends are being helped by fans group Football Supporters' Association Cymru as well as UK Government officials in Doha.

Paul Corkrey, from the Football Supporters Association Cymru, said: "He was part of the Red Wall and we're all devastated for him and his family. We're all like one big family and we lost one of our family members today."

Mr Corkrey also paid tribute to Mr Davies's son and friends, saying they had been very "brave" in the way they had handled the situation.

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: "We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Qatar."

Noel Mooney, chief executive of the Football Association of Wales tweeted:

The FAW tweeted: "Mae CBDC yn cydymdeimlo efo teulu a ffrindiau Kevin Davies (Our condolences to the family and friends of Kevin Davies).
