Soccer fans got everything they could've hoped for from the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, with four exciting ties still hanging in the balance. And though Manchester City and Inter Milan have all but locked up the Premier League and Serie A, respectively, there's still plenty to play for, as European qualification has yet to be decided and the race for places in next year's Champions League and Europa League is still on.

Paris Saint-Germain vs. Bayern Munich

Kylian Mbappe's eventual coronation as the world's best player has been an overarching theme of this competition, and the 20-year-old superstar added two goals against Bayern in the first leg, his second goal conjuring up splitting memories of peak Ronaldo. If Bayern elects to start Niklas Sule again, Mbappe will destroy him with his pace and intelligent runs. PSG deployed Neymar as an attacking midfielder to perfection in the first leg, and though his status with the club remains uncertain for next summer, it would be a great parting gift to knock off the defending champions.

For Bayern, Robert Lewandowski's absence was painfully obvious, even if Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting did well to notch a 37th-minute goal. If the depending champs want to stay in the competition, they might have to take some risks by advancing wing backs Benjamin Pavard and Alphonso Davies aggressively, especially if they can't cut the lead by the first half.

Chelsea vs. Porto

You have to feel for Porto, who were simply outclassed in Chelsea's 2-0 win. Chelsea retained 61 percent of the possession, stringing together 539 completed passes in a game that almost certainly was going to break their way from the outset. History has been kind to Porto before, and those that have doubted the reigning Portuguese champions have often looked silly, but they don't have an answer for 22-year-old Mason Mount, who has become one of the tournament's many burgeoning stars in 2021.

Liverpool vs. Real Madrid

Vinicius Junior was billed as the next Brazilian great and has seldom looked like it, until he deposited a brace against Liverpool. Just 20 years old, Vinicius is only scratching the surface of his potential while Liverpool's fatigue from playing in several competitions over the past three years is beginning to set in. Virgil Van Djik's injury-related absence is perhaps too large for Liverpool to overcome as Madrid, among other opponents, are poking holes in the defense that the 29-year-old centre-back used to erase, routinely.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Manchester City

In a battle between two 20-year-old prodigies – in a tournament that has seen several youngsters rise to the forefront of the sport – City's Phil Foden outperformed Dortmund's Erling Haaland, with a 90th-minute winner to give his club a 2-1 advantage. Keeping Haaland off the scoresheet in two consecutive games is a near-impossibility, and City may be bound to play a more conservative game with the lead in hand, knowing "The Terminator" is liable to score at any time, from anywhere.

Everton vs. Tottenham

Just two points separate Everton and Tottenham, with several European implications for next year. Sitting in seventh, a maddeningly inconsistent Tottenham side is looking to build on their improbable bid to remain in the Champions League, while eighth-place Everton is looking to play spoiler, while perhaps mounting an even more unlikely campaign for Champions League qualification. Look out for Everton's James Rodriguez and Tottenham's Gareth Bale trying to attempt the spectacular in this tie.

Napoli vs. Inter Milan

Inter is up 11 points on its nearest rival and is looking to celebrate their first Serie A title since their magical treble season in 2010. Romelu Lukaku's 21 goals has been vital to their resurgence as a genuine Italian powerhouse, and now Inter can finish off its finest season in a decade by putting a crushing blow in Napoli's chance to qualify for the Champions League, currently sitting in fifth while desperately trying to catch Atalanta.
