The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have stepped out for their first official engagement of 2022, and all eyes were on Kate Middleton's familiar-looking outfit.

While visiting the Foundling Museum in London alongside Prince William to learn more about the care sector on Wednesday, the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in a monochromatic look that some fans are convinced was inspired by Meghan Markle.

The 40-year-old royal was seen wearing a pair of navy Jigsaw trousers, a matching turtleneck, and a tailored teal coat that she has been spotted wearing on previous occasions.

The Duchess finished the look with a pair of Mini Hammered Doorknocker Hoop Earrings, which originally retailed for just £7 ($12 CAD) from London-based brand Accessorize.

Fans on Twitter called out the royal's look for appearing to be "very similar" to an outfit worn by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, back in September 2021.

While paying her respects at the One World Observatory in New York City, Meghan was seen wearing a similar monochromatic look.

At the time, her outfit featured a navy blue Emporio Armani coat, navy trousers and a matching turtleneck top, and a pair of her go-to Aquazzura suede heels.

The Duchess of Sussex was often dragged by the press for opting to wear modern pantsuits during her time as a working royal, with some claiming that they broke royal protocol.

One Twitter user wrote that Kate's outfit looked "very similar to an outfit seen in New York recently."

Another called out the outfit, saying that it's "interesting she now wears trousers to an official event...and it's OK...I wonder who started that trend."

Despite the similarities between the two outfits, others praised the Duchess of Cambridge for her thrifty fashion choice, opting for a pair of ultra-affordable earrings and re-wearing pieces from her closet.

"Love this by the [Duchess of Cambridge] showing you can shop on the high street and still look fab," one user wrote.

"She shows that you don’t have to be dripping in money to look great," another added.
