In a new teaser clip ahead of Oprah Winfrey's sit-down interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle reveals why now was the right time to speak about her two year experience as a working royal. Her answer? Now she's able to speak for herself, on her own terms.

In the clip, Winfrey recalls the first time she asked the duchess for an interview, ahead of her 2018 royal wedding to Prince Harry, which Winfrey attended. At the time, Meghan politely turned down the media mogul, explaining that "perhaps there will be another time, when there's the right time."

"What is right about this time?" Winfrey asked Meghan.

"Well, so many things," Meghan began. "That were on the other side of a lot of life experience that's happened. And also that we have the ability to make our own choices in a way that I couldn't have said yes to you then. That wasn't my choice to make.

The duchess continued, expressing that entering the royal family at a point where she was already an adult, she wasn't used to having to refer to a team of people before making any professional or personal decisions of her own.

"As an adult who lived a really independent life, to then go into this construct that is different than I think what people imagine it to be. It's really liberating to be able to have the right and the privilege in some ways to be able to say yes. I mean I'm ready to talk. To say it for myself. To be able to make a choice on your own and to speak for yourself."

Oprah with Meghan and Harry airs Sunday on CBS at 8 PM.
