Remember Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Oprah? Yeah, well, apparently Prince William and Kate Middleton aren’t over it more than a year later. Royal expert and author Katie Nicholl tells Entertainment Tonight that the Cambridges not seeing much of the Sussexes during their recent visit to England wasn’t exactly just because of scheduling conflicts. It was also due to lingering trust issues.

“I think that does signal not just a busy timetable on the part of the Cambridges but perhaps also a bit of a lack of trust,” she explains. “I do know that William and Kate are worried that anything they might say or do with the fact that it could end up being leaked to the media. So I think in the case of really having to prove now that they can be trusted.”

“If there’s going to be any chance of moving on, repairing relationships, and really trying to heal some pretty deep wounds, then I think Harry and Meghan are going to have to respect the wishes of the royals,” Katie adds. “I think Harry and Meghan are absolutely going to have to respect the wishes of [Queen Elizabeth II] and [Prince Charles] and that these meetings remain private.”

Meghan and Harry haven’t said literally anything about their time with the royals during the Jubilee, but Harry did inadvertently cause some drama when he told Hoda Kotb during the Invictus Games that he was “making sure” the Queen is “protected and got the right people around her.” A pretty mild/chill comment to make about one’s grandmother, but apparently the royals were less than thrilled!

Anyway, the good news is that Harry and Meghan’s recent hang with Prince Charles went well and was pretty emotional due to this being the first time he met his granddaughter Lilibet. More on that below:
