Ryan Reynolds Just Announced He's Taking a "Sabbatical" From Making Movies

Ryan Reynolds is taking a break from acting. That's not a rumor—this news comes straight from the actor himself.

This weekend, Ryan took to Instagram to share the announcement, along with a photo dump of pics from the set of his upcoming movie, Spirited. In a lengthy caption, he wrote:

"That’s a wrap for me on Spirited. Not sure I’d have been ready to say yes to a film this challenging even three years ago.

Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true. And this is my second film with the great @octaviaspencer

Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I’m gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists.

These days, kindness matters as much as talent. I’ve been lucky to work with folks who are flush with both."

Ryan's costar, Octavia Spencer compounded the sweetness of the post, commenting, "You’re an amazing actor/singer and producer. I had a blast working with you, Will, and this outstanding cast and crew! Enjoy your downtime."

Octavia's comment was joined by a chorus of support and praise from more of Ryan's famous friends, like Hugh Jackman and Ava DuVernay, but not every comment was as sentimental and sweet as the post itself.

It will come as a surprise to exactly zero people who have any awareness of Ryan's relationship with his wife, Blake Lively, that she responded to the post by trolling him expertly (because that's the only way she knows how to troll, TBH).

"Michael Caine did it first," Blake wrote, referencing a quote from the 88-year-old actor that went viral this weekend and seemed to imply that he had retired from acting (he clarified on Twitter Saturday that he has not, in fact, retired, however).

Well played, as usual, Blake.
