McDonald's invents the 'frork,' a 'supremely superfluous' utensil
In its latest marketing move, McDonald’s has concocted a not-very-useful tool specifically designed for turning french fries into utensils.
As part of its campaign for a new selection of premium sandwiches, McDonald’s created a short infomercial-style video featuring Anthony Sullivan, whose claims to fame include hawking OxiClean and the Edge of Glory.
The tool is a silicone fork-shaped utensil with an opening designed to hold three to four fries. Once the frork is set up, it can then be used to sop up dribbled sauce and toppings from the sandwich. The launch coincides with the release of three new sandwiches under the Signature Crafted Recipes banner, Pico Guacamole, Sweet BBQ Bacon and Maple Bacon Dijon.
“Will the Frork change your life?” asks Sullivan in the commercial. “Probably not. Will the Frork improve your Signature Crafted Recipes eating experience? I mean sure… maybe!”
What makes the product notable is that customers across the U.S. will actually be able to get a frork of their own. Customers can call 1-844-MCD-FRORK to find out how to get it and where, and on May 5, frorks will be given away at select McDonald’s.
Unfortunately, only U.S. McDonald’s locations will be getting the frork. However local markets often have their own weird and unique McDonald’s marketing strategies globally, like Pokemon Go events in Japan or McHappy Day socks in Canada, both happening this week as well.
